Watson College of Education
The Donald R. Watson College of Education offers graduate programs in professional education in the following areas: (1) Master of Education (M.Ed.) program with specializations in curriculum/instruction supervision, elementary education, middle grades education, language and literacy education, and secondary education; (2) Master of School Administration (M.S.A.); (3) Master of Science (M.S.) in Instructional Technology; (4) Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) program with specializations in secondary education with options in English, history, mathematics, and science; and middle grades education with options in language arts, social studies, mathematics and science; and (5) Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership and Administration. The M.Ed., and M.S. programs meet the requirements for North Carolina Masters/Advanced Competencies, and the Ed.D. program leads to superintendent licensure for qualified program completers. Add-on licensure areas are available through graduate coursework in: Academically and Intellectually Gifted, Curriculum and Instruction Supervision, English as a Second Language, Mathematics, Reading, and School Administration.
Coursework in Reading Recovery™ is available to students meeting specific admissions criteria, including holding a master’s degree in reading or closely related area, at least five years of teaching experience, and having the nomination of a school district or consortium that has filed application to become a Reading Recovery™ site. Persons successfully earning certification are qualified and approved by the National Diffusion Network to serve as teacher leaders for the Reading Recovery™ program within public school systems.
