B.S. Business Administration, Information Systems Concentration M.S. Computer Science and Information Systems Combined Program

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Cameron School of Business

Overview

Objective: This combined B.S/M.S. degree program is designed to provide qualified students the opportunity to complete two degree-programs in five years in an accelerated manner. Upon successful completion of the program, a student will earn a B.S. in Business Administration (BSBA) with a concentration in Information Systems and an M.S. in Computer Science and Information Systems (MSCSIS).

Requirements: Completion of all degree requirements for both the BSBA with Information Systems concentration and the MSCSIS. A maximum of twelve credit hours can be counted for both the BSBA and the MSCSIS degrees.

Program Pre-requisites & Admission Requirements

• Admission to the Cameron School of Business with an Information Systems concentration
• Minimum GPA: 3.0
• Completion of the B.S./M.S. Combined Program in Information Systems Application Form
• Completion of the Undergraduate Request to Enroll in Graduate Courses Form
• Students must still apply for the MS CSIS program.

Rationale for Proposed Program

This  program is an opportunity for students who excel in information systems to pursue a specialized master’s program. The combined program will benefit students in several ways:
•     Waiver of the graduate application fee for the MSCSIS program
•     Application of twelve credit hours of graduate course work to satisfy  twelve credit  hours of undergraduate degree requirements.
•     Shorten the time required to complete the requirements of the MSCSIS program.

Curriculum

Students must complete the course requirements of both the BSBA. Information Systems Concentration program (21 hours) and the MSCSIS program (36 hours). A maximum of twelve credit hours may be “double-counted” toward both the BSBA and the MSCSIS degrees. For example, as part of the BSBA, students may replace up to six hours of 300 or 400 level MIS elective courses with MSCSIS core or allowable MSCSIS elective courses. Furthermore, as part of the BSBA, students may replace up to six hours of general undergraduate electives with MSCSIS core or allowable MSCSIS elective courses.

Note: Course credit will count for the BSBA regardless of whether the student applies to the MSCSIS program.

Timeline

• Students who successfully complete the four 500-level MSCSIS courses and all remaining BSBA degree requirements are awarded the B.S. in Business Administration with an Information Systems Concentration.
• In their junior year students will apply for the 4+1 program, and complete the Undergraduate Request to Enroll in Graduate Courses Form.
• In their senior year students will apply for admission to the MSCSIS program. If admitted to the MSCSIS program, the twelve credits earned at the 500-level will count towards the requirements of the MSCSIS program.
• Note: Students that receive acceptance into the combined degree program are still subject to the admission requirements for the MSCSIS program. Admission to the combined degree program does not guarantee admission to the MSCSIS program.
