This course is a covers numerous topics in the area of Healthcare Finance. You will learn to apply tools of Financial Management to the management of Healthcare entities. Ask anyone who works in the field of Healthcare why you need to have a special course in the topic, and they will unanimously say “because healthcare is different.” To this end, we will cover topics such as the evolution the healthcare payment system in the United States (with some comparison to other countries). We will cover Revenue models and the Revenue cycle, as well as cost models. We will discuss how to measure community benefit, and we will do a deep dive into financial statements of hospitals and look at topics such as working capital management and cash management (critical issues in healthcare, but applicable to any firm).
