EVS 421 - Literature of the Environment The goal of the course is to familiarize students with pivotal and influential writings that lay the foundation of environmental sciences and examine various ways writers have presented the natural world. Students will read and discuss material in a loose chronological way, to build a deeper understanding of the discipline - reflecting on where we started and where we are headed. Along the way, we will note the historical and political contexts in which the writing was produced and examine our perceptions of environment—from the philosophical to the political and from scientific to poetic.
