To satisfy the oral communication requirement for the B.A. degree in Geography a student must successfully complete GGY 495 . Applied Learning Requirement:
To satisfy the applied learning requirement for the B.A. degree in Geography a student must successfully complete one of the following courses: GGY 322 , GGY 333 , GGY 335 , GGY 384 , GGY 424 , GGY 426 , GGY 428 , GGY 433 , GGY 437 , GGY 473 , GGY 491 , GGY 498 or GGY 499 , GLY 390 or OCN 390 .

In addition, students must complete a minimum of 23 elective hours consisting of any GGY courses beyond the core, and up to 10 hours from among:

Geography majors are strongly encouraged to pursue a minor or second major, and to carefully select courses that will define their main area of interest.
Additional Information:
The Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences offers a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in geography. The geography major is designed to prepare students for a variety of careers and advanced study in applied geography/planning, human/regional geography, and physical/environmental geography. The B.A. degree is flexible to allow for complementary studies in allied disciplines. Geography majors are strongly encouraged to pursue a minor or second major, and to carefully select courses that will define their main area of interest.
For example, working closely with an advisor, students may select elective courses tailored to specific areas of interest such as:
- applied geography (GGY 215 , GGY 220 , GGY 222 , GGY 328 , GGY 322 , GGY 424 , GGY 426 , GGY 428 , GGY 473 , or a second major in Geospatial Technologies, Information Technology or Computer Science)
- human geography (GGY 180 , GGY 181 , GGY 282 , GGY 340 , GGY 345 , GGY 346 , GGY 360 , GGY 382 , GGY 383 , GGY 385 , GGY 386 , OCN 250 , OCN 475 , or a second major or minor in International Studies, Anthropology or History)
- physical geography (GGY 235 , GGY 333 , GGY 335 , GGY 420 , GGY 432 , GGY 433 , GGY 435 , GGY 437 , GGY 439 , OCN 250 , OCN 475 , or a second major or minor in Geology, Geoscience, Oceanography or Environmental Studies).
A “C” (2.00) or better average is required on all courses taken within the department and on all required courses above the 199 level in the department.
