CHHS 350 - Leadership Skills for Adventure Exercise This course is a 3-credit hour course designed to provide skills necessary for wilderness travel and outdoor adventure. It will emphasize effective leadership for adventure programming, knowledge of backpacking skills, wilderness and remote first aid, proper physical conditioning, route finding, equipment selection, and an understanding and respect for the environment. This course incorporates lecture sessions followed by an adventure trip, where students can apply course principals and skills. Specifically, we will meet face-to-face for 3 hours weekly over the final 10 weeks of school, experience a 4-day adventure trip over (add specific dates each semester here), and then reflect on the adventure experience upon our return (via online assignment).
Credit Hours: 3
Additional Restrictions/Requirements: This course will require participation in vigorous physical activity (i.e. over ground walking while wearing a backpack equivalent to about 30% of your body weight). Students must complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) on the first day of class. If deemed necessary, students must follow up and get approval to participate in the course from a medical doctor. Course Repeatability: Course may be repeated.
