The Minor in Small Business and Social Entrepreneurship prepares non-business students to engage in entrepreneurial activities related to their major. The minor is particularly suited to students who are interested in developing or supporting an entrepreneurial venture related to their major. The minor is flexible and versatile enough to benefit any type of entrepreneurial interest ranging from the arts to the sciences, engineering, and beyond. Students are required to take five core courses for the minor and then they may ass two additional courses relevant to their major or area of interest.

Requirements for Minor in Small Business and Social Entrepreneurship:
The minor requires 21 credit hours of study with three required courses and two groups of electives (6 hours each) that can be geared toward the student’s area of interest. Admission to the minor requires achieving a grade of ‘C’ or higher in EBD 280 OR EBD 282. The minor is open to all students outside the Cameron School of Business. Business majors, with the exception of students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, are not eligible for the minor. With permission of the coordinator of the Small Business and Social Entrepreneurship minor, Electives within this minor may be able to “double dip” up to two relevant courses taken for their major or another minor and taught by other departments across campus. Fundamental Courses
These fundamental courses will introduce non-business students to the knowledge, skills, and resources they can use to leverage expertise from their major in order to begin or support entrepreneurial ventures. All students take the introductory course in entrepreneurship, either the general course (EBD 280) or the course geared toward the sciences and engineering (EBD 282), along with two entrepreneurial business courses (EBD 301 & EBD 302). Next students select two courses most relevant to their major to further develop their entrepreneurial acumen (EBD 281, EBD 303, EBD 304, EBD 354). Finally, students pick two elective courses related to their major. A list of courses particularly suited to this minor are listed, but alternate courses may be approved by the coordinator of the minor. Required:

Plus 6 hours from the list of courses below or others as approved by the coordinator of the minor
Students will ideally select their final two electives to match with their entrepreneurial interests or their major. The below list offers suggestions of courses in other disciplines that are entrepreneurial in nature. Students may select courses outside this list with approval from the coordinator of the minor. In the case of restricted courses, approval must be secured by the appropriate Department Chair. Students should confer with their academic advisors when determining the elective courses. |
