JPN 307 - Japanese Phonetics, Phonology, & Pronunciation Introduction to the sound system of Japanese language varieties from the perspective of applied linguists and language learners. Description and comparison of Japanese vowels, consonants, mora timing, pitch-accent, intonation, and other features. Pronunciation training with a focus on intelligibility, and introduction to sociolinguistic factors in speech patterns.
Credit Hours: 3
Prerequisite Courses: JPN 102 with C or higher or equivalent on Japanese placement test Additional Restrictions/Requirements: Instructor approval for only those students taking the course online through the UNC Exchange, since this requires separate steps to ensure proficiency University Studies: Approaches and Perspectives/Understanding Human Institutions and Behaviors Course Repeatability: Course may not be repeated.
