GLY 443  -  Tectonics


Explores ideas on plate tectonic theory including assessment of data that lead to its acceptance. Examines a broad range of tectonic principles and dynamics using modern and ancient examples, and considers controls on geological and geophysical processes from Earth’s core to crust. Includes geometry of present and past plate boundaries and motions, development of plates including sea-floor spreading, subduction, and orogeny, evolution of continents and ocean basins, and tectonic driving mechanisms.

Credit Hours: 3

Prerequisite Courses: GLY 201  or GLY 310  or GLY 441  
Additional Restrictions/Requirements: Prerequisite course or consent of instructor.
