NSG 680 - Population Health Promotion and Clinical Epidemiology Course Description: This course provides the student with a theoretical foundation for wellness, health promotion, disease prevention, and behavioral modification for individuals, aggregates and populations. The environmental, socioeconomic, epidemiological, and cultural context of health behaviors will be explored. The emphasis is on theories and research to promote and preserve wellness lifestyles in patient populations, disease risk appraisal and reduction strategies. This course will also focus on understanding the impact of social determinants on health outcomes. Students will assess population health models, frameworks, and practice guidelines to address health status of populations and sources of health inequalities. An emphasis is placed on collaborative interprofessional strategies to promote health, reduce risk factors, improve health outcomes, and improve quality of care in health care systems. Students will integrate concepts of population-based health outcomes management into their final DNP Project.
