LIC 552 - Literacy Integration in the Middle Grades 6-9 Course Description: Develops understanding of reading and writing processes in the broad context of communication. Presents content area strategies for fostering and evaluating interest, fluency, and skill in reading and writing. Topics include creating a multi-literacy environment, organizational and instructional strategies for the development of reading and writing ability, techniques for motivating and guiding readers and writers, incorporating critical literacy perspectives, integrating 21st century skills in the teaching of content area literacy, and strategies for reading comprehension, which support learning in all areas of the middle school curriculum. Field experience required.
