Students transferring to UNCW from another accredited college or university will submit their transcripts to the Office of Admission as part of the application process. Transfer credit may be accepted from institutions accredited by the following bodies:
- Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)
- Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC)
- Higher Learning Commission (HLC)
- Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)
- New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE)
- Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU)
- Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)
Credit awarded from an institution whose accrediting body is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as an Institutional Accrediting Agency may be considered for transfer provided the credits are not of a vocational, trade, or technical nature and are not outside the scope of UNCW’s mission.
Credit will be awarded for all transferable courses earned at another institution for which a grade of C or better is earned and all official agreements will be followed (e.g. Comprehensive Articulation Agreement). Students may submit an appeal of their transferred credits through the Registrar’s Office.
To graduate, students must meet the university’s Residency Requirement (see policy). Hours attempted, and grade points earned at other institutions are not used in calculating grade point averages. Transfer credit is used in evaluating eligibility for “Degrees with Distinction”. Colleges and Schools may have more restrictive limits based on the needs of the degree programs as published in the catalogue.
