The B.S. degree in geology focuses on scientific study of Earth; common rocks and minerals, processes that form and alter basic Earth materials, and key events in the geologic evolution of the planet. Specifically, the B.S. in geology is designed for students intending to pursue advanced studies in geology or who intend to attain licensure as a professional geologist.

Oral Communication Requirement:
To satisfy the oral communication requirement for the B.S. degree in Geology, a student must successfully complete GLY 431 . Applied Learning Requirement:
To satisfy the applied learning requirement for the B.S. degree in Geology, a student must complete either GLY 470 and GLY 471 (total of 5 hours) or GLY 498 (6 hours). Requirements for a Major in Geology for the B.S. Degree:
Options:
In addition to these core courses, students must complete one of the options below. Option 1: Academic:
This option is designed for students intending to pursue advanced or graduate studies. Electives in this option should be chosen to complement the student’s expected areas of advanced study, and might include course work in other disciplines such as biology, chemistry, geography, or physics. In addition to the B.S. core, Option 2: Professional:
This option is designed for students who intend to enter the job market after graduation and who intend to pursue licensure as a professional geologist. Elective courses should be chosen to complement the student’s intended career path and might include courses from other disciplines such as geography and environmental studies. In addition to the B.S. core, Additional Information:
A “C” (2.00) or better average is required on all courses taken within the department and “C” (2.00) or better average on all required courses above the 199 level in the department. |
