Women’s and Gender Studies Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

The Post-baccalaureate Certificate Program in Women’s and Gender Studies is an applied program designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of professionals and others interested in gender construction and its history. The goal is to advance the status of women throughout our society, by incorporating women’s perspectives into other studies/professions, by enhancing students’ knowledge of women’s and gender issues, and by providing students with the opportunity to gain practical skills and certification in the field of Women’s and Gender Studies.

Admission Requirements


  1. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university completed before graduate study begins.
  2. A strong overall academic record with a ‘B’ average or better.
  3. Official copies of transcripts of all college work (undergraduate and graduate). 
  4. An application for graduate admission.
  5. An essay on the applicant’s work related to academic or professional WGS topics (this may include, but is not limited to, previous courses in WGS or courses in which a portion of the content or student’s projects were related directly to the study of women and gender).  The essay should include a statement of purpose indicating the applicant’s expectations of what they will gain in earning the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies.
  6. Three recommendations by individuals in professionally relevant fields.
  7. Application and supplemental documents must be submitted by the published deadline.

Additional Information:


     Registration for the Exit Requirement:

  • Requires formal admittance into the certificate program
  • Completion of WGS 510 or equivalent with approval from the Program Coordinator
  • Completion of two additional courses towards the WGS Certificate
  • Approval of topic by the Program Coordinator
