HST 383 - Women and Gender in the Modern Middle East Historical survey of the roles of women in the Middle East and the many interpretations of those roles. Topics may include the European fascination with the harem and the veil; women and the nation-state; women in revolutionary contexts; women and labor; women and veiling. While the primary emphasis is on Arab, Muslim women, Arab Christians and Israeli women are also examined.
