Statistics Minor

The minor in statistics offers students a foundation in statistical theory and practical experience with statistical software for data analysis. This minor pairs well with a variety of science and business related majors to aid students in acquiring the skills needed to become an applied statistician in government, business and industry.

Requirements for a Minor in Statistics


  • Any introductory statistics course (STT 215/210 or STT 301 or PSY 225 or BAN 280). Credits / Units: 3.0

  • Or

  • Or

  • 12 hours including at least 9 additional hours in statistics at the 300-400 level (Students without calculus background can take  STT 401, STT 425, STT 430, STT 450,  STT 411)  and at most 3 hours of collateral coursework in a substantive area of statistical or mathematical theory or application, approved by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics (These courses may come from different disciplines and some must contain mathematical or statistical content. Any 300-400 level departmental classes (DSC, MAT, and STT prefixes) satisfy this requirement. Potential extra-departmental courses include BAN 300, BAN 301, BAN 302, BIO 335, CRM 301, CSC 380, ECN 377, ECN 477, FIN 335, FIN 336, PSY 417, PSY 425, and SOC 301.  )

Total Credit Hours: 18


Additional Information


An overall quality point average of “C” (2.00) or better is required for all courses counted toward the minor.
