    International Business

The International Business concentration is designed for those students seeking career opportunities in internationally focused organizations or those students pursuing an extended or permanent work experience abroad. The International Business concentration has a cross-functional business focus and does not reside in any one Cameron School of Business department. Faculty members representing all departments work as a team to guide the program and advise students. Students in this concentration must (1) be proficient in a language other than their native language at the “intermediate mid” level of proficiency according to the ACTFL standards or its equivalent, and (2) complete a formal international experience (i.e., study abroad, international internship, exchange). The language proficiency requirement can be met by (1) passing a professionally administered language proficiency exam at the ‘intermediate mid’ level of proficiency, or (2) completing the intermediate sequence of the language (e.g., through the SPN/GER/FRH 202 level or equivalent) with a grade of a C- or better, or (3) completing an advanced world language course for which the 202 level of the language (or equivalent) is a prerequisite with a grade of a C- or better, or (4) completing the requirements for a major or minor in the language. Language proficiency exams must assess written and oral communication, be professionally administered, and align to ACTFL standards. Students should contact the UNCW World Languages & Cultures Department to ensure any non-UNCW administered proficiency test meets the expected quality standards. Regarding the international experience requirement, the INB Coordinator has ultimate authority to award credit for such experiences, though generally a formalized study abroad, exchange, or international internship program offered through UNCW will meet this requirement. Virtual programs may meet this requirement with approval from the INB Coordinator.

To improve the potential students are well-prepared for an international business career, the concentration is designed to provide students with both (1) an overview of international business from a cross-functional business perspective by taking international-focused classes from various business disciplines, as well as (2) courses within a specific business discipline with international applicability. As such, students concentrating in International Business will select a track within a business discipline. Students may select one of ten tracks within International Business. All International Business tracks are 21 semester hours. Students may not concentrate in more than one INB track, but are encouraged to add any other CSB concentration. Students may “double-count” up to six credit hours to meet the degree requirements of two different concentrations.

Transatlantic Business School Alliance (TABSA)-International Dual Degree Program

The Transatlantic Business School Alliance (TABSA) program is a dual degree program designed for those students who have a high proficiency in a foreign language and are seeking career opportunities in international business. Upon completion of the program the student will receive a B.S. degree in business administration from UNCW as well as a business degree from the TABSA host institution. Currently UNCW has four host institutions, (1) KEDGE in Marseille, France that awards the International BBA, (2) Hochschule Bremen in Bremen, Germany that awards a Diplom-Kauffrau/Kaufmann (FH), (3) Hertfordshire in London, UK that awards the B.A. Honours International Business, and (4) the University of Valencia, Spain that awards the Graduato Europeo en Direccion de Empresas (GEDE).  Students in the program pay tuition and fees to UNCW. Transportation, housing and other living costs are the responsibility of the student. Students electing to enter the Transatlantic Business School Alliance (TABSA)-International Dual Degree Program must complete the required coursework at UNCW and meet admission requirements for the Cameron School of Business, approximately 70-79 credit hours in their two years at UNCW. The last two years of study will be completed at a TABSA European member institution. TABSA students studying at our partners in France, Spain, or Germany are required to complete an internship. At completion, students receive a Bachelor of Science in business degree from UNCW as well as the partner institution’s equivalent degree. Successful completion of the International Dual Degree Program requires a highly structured program of study beginning in the freshman year at UNCW.

    Note

(* Indicates UNCW University Studies Program courses.) Students wishing to participate in the program should obtain a list of the specific courses to be taken at UNCW and the host institution from the Cameron School of Business Academic Advising & Career Success Center.
