Clinical Residency in Special Education, Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

This clinical residency program is designed to provide coursework in the field of Special Education for non-certified teachers who have been hired to teach in public schools. This coursework is designed to lead to NC teacher certification. This is not a degree program. Applicants seeking a master’s degree should apply to the Special Education Specialization, M.A.T. program. All successfully completed course credits completed in the Clinical Residency in Special Education Post-Baccalaurate Certificate at UNCW can be applied towards completion of the Special Education Specialization, M.A.T. degree program.

Admission Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university completed before graduate study begins.
- Transcripts from each institution attended (graduate and undergraduate).
- An undergraduate grade average of “B” (GPA = 3.0) or better is recommended. The state of North Carolina Department of Public Instruction requires that applicants have an undergraduate GPA of 2.7 to receive a teaching license.
- Three recommendations from individuals in professionally relevant fields.
- A letter of interest.
- Application and supplemental documents must be submitted by the published deadline.
Professional Core
Students are required to complete Required Core Courses (15 credit hours) and choose a licensure concentration in either Adapted Curriculum Concentration Courses (6 credit hours) or General Curriculum Concentration Courses (6 credit hours). Pedagogical Expertise - Adapted Curriculum Concentration
