The Master of Education with specialization in Physical Education and Health (PEH) is designed for candidates who are teaching Physical Education and Health at the public school levels pre-kindergarten through grade twelve. Graduates of the program will possess the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue advanced education in teacher education programs within the discipline, as well as to work in professional and leadership positions within public and private school settings. The M.Ed. with specialization in Physical Education and Health requires a minimum of 34 credit hours. The program consists of a core of professional studies that develops the instructional decision-making of teachers and a focus core designed to enhance knowledge of subject matter, structure of disciplines, and appropriate modes of inquiry. The specialization supports the Watson College of Education’s conceptual framework of developing highly competent professionals to serve in educational leadership roles.

Objectives
Program Outcomes:
- Students will demonstrate the ability to conduct research in the health and physical education fields (PEH).
- Students will demonstrate the ability to analyze and synthesize research in PEH.
- Students will demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills in health and physical education settings.
- Students will apply PEH knowledge and concepts in instructional settings.
- Students will demonstrate innovative, inclusive, and culturally sensitive methods for working with diverse student populations.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to plan and evaluate effective PEH programs.
- Students will use technology to teach and assess learning outcomes more effectively.
- Students will use technology in the supervision and evaluation of teaching.
- Students will demonstrate appropriate supervision of instruction in health and physical activity settings.
- Students will discuss current trends and issues in PEH.
Admission Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, completed before graduate study begins.
- Official copies of transcripts of college work (graduate and undergraduate). An undergraduate grade average of “B” (GPA=3.0) or better is recommended.
- Three recommendations by individuals in relevant professional fields.
- A letter of interest describing commitment to the teaching profession, prior experiences working with K-12 students in PEH classes, prior experiences in schools, and philosophy of teaching and learning.
- Application and supplemental documents must be submitted by the published deadline.

Exit Requirement
Candidates completing the specialization will be required to complete one of the following:
- Conduct an action research project that explores some facet of teaching and learning in the fields of health and/or physical education and present it as a thesis.
- Conduct an action research project that explores some facet of teaching and learning in the fields of health and/or physical education, and then disseminate the findings by submitting a manuscript to a peer-reviewed academic or professional trade publication.
- Present the findings of an action research project or present innovative teaching methods at an approved national, state, or local professional conference or professional development seminar.
- Present a teaching-based webinar for a professional organization.
