The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers two programs leading to undergraduate degrees. The Bachelor of Science degree, certified by the American Chemical Society, prepares students intending to pursue a graduate degree or a career in chemistry. The Bachelor of Arts degree provides a broad chemistry-based background in preparation for a chemistry-related career or for those planning to teach chemistry. The minor in chemistry is designed for students who are majoring in other disciplines but would like additional coursework in chemistry.

Oral Communication Requirement:

To satisfy the oral communication requirement for the B.S. or B.A. degree in Chemistry a student must successfully complete CHM 495 .

Applied Learning Requirement:

To satisfy the applied learning requirement for the B.A. and B.S. degree in Chemistry a student must successfully complete at least one hour of CHM 491 , CHM 495 CHM 498 , or CHM 499 .

Additional Information:

An overall grade point average of “C” (2.00) is required in all chemistry courses counted toward the major.

Students working for the B.S. degree should arrange their work so as to take CHM 320  and CHM 321  in the junior year.

(**If CHM 291  or CHM 491  are used to fulfill requirements for the major, a student must take a combined total of 3 credit hours in CHM 291  and CHM 491 . A comprehensive written report encompassing the 3 credit hour coursework is then required. A student may only count a total of 3 credit hours of CHM 291 CHM 491 , and CHM 499  toward the major.)
