The College of Arts and Sciences offers an interdisciplinary B.A. degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. This degree program is designed to provide a distinctive learning experience for students reenrolling at UNCW after an absence of two or more consecutive (non-summer) semesters. Students electing this program must have previously completed at least 70 credits (transfer credits may count towards this total) and be in good academic standing. The goal of the program is for students to acquire a core liberal arts education combined with focused knowledge and skills. The integrative program curriculum will draw on prior course work while allowing students to complete their education by focusing on a particular option such as Enterprise and Economy, Global and International Studies, Social Institutions and Human Behavior, Science and Technology, Arts and Humanities, or Human Wellbeing.
 

Applied Learning Requirement:


To satisfy the applied learning requirement for the B.A. degree in Interdisciplinary Studies a student must successfully complete the Senior Project in IDS 400 .

Requirements for a Major in Interdisciplinary Studies for the B.A. degree:


Students must complete the Core requirements (15 hours), an Option (12 hours), and Electives (12 hours).  At least 24 hours in the major must be at the 300 level or above. IDS 300 and IDS 400 may be used to partially fulfill this requirement

Courses used to satisfy core requirements cannot be used to satisfy the option requirements listed below.

Option Requirement: (12 hours)


Twelve (12) hours in a thematic area (Arts and Humanities, Enterprise and Economy, Human Wellbeing, Global and International, Science and Technology, or Social Institutions and Human Behavior). Must include at least two disciplines.

Social Institutions and Human Behavior Option


Electives: (12 hours)


  • Choose from courses in any option.
  • Other appropriate courses as determined in consultation with an advisor and approved by program director.

Total: (39 hours)


Additional Information:


A 2.0 in the major is required for graduation. A grade of “C-” or better is required in all courses counted toward the major.
