Africana Studies Minor

The College of Arts and Sciences offers an interdisciplinary minor in Africana studies which provides students with an understanding of the many facets of the African-American experience. The minor encompasses courses in history, English, public and international affairs, sociology, criminology, communication studies, music and philosophy and religion. Students should contact the coordinators in the Department of English or the Department of Philosophy and Religion for additional information.

Requirements for a Minor in Africana Studies:
To earn a minor in Africana studies requires 21 hours, including six (6) hours in core courses and at least six (6) hours at the 300-level or higher. Students must take a minimum of one course from each of the three groups A, B, and C for a total of nine (9) hours. The remaining hours may be taken from any of the categories below including the electives. Group A Literature (1 course)
Group B History (1 course)
Group C Art, Religion and Music (1 course)
Additional Information:
Students must earn at least a “C” (2.00) average in courses counted for a minor in Africana studies. Courses taken to fulfill major requirements cannot be used to fulfill requirements for the Africana studies minor. For more information contact Dr. Emmanuel Harris II (harrise@uncw.edu). |
