Africana Studies Minor

The College of Arts and Sciences offers an interdisciplinary minor in Africana studies which provides students with an understanding of the many facets of the African-American experience. The minor encompasses courses in history, English, political science, sociology, criminology, communication studies and philosophy and religion. Students should contact the coordinators in the Department of Communication Studies or the Department of Philosophy and Religion for additional information.

Requirements for a Minor in Africana Studies:


To earn a minor in Africana studies requires 21 hours, including twelve hours in core courses. The remaining hours may be taken from the electives below, including at least 3 hours at the 300 level or higher.

Additional Information:


Students must earn at least a “C” (2.00) average in courses counted for a minor in Africana studies.

Courses taken to fulfill major requirements cannot be used to fulfill requirements for the Africana studies minor.
