Prerequisite: Sophomore standing or consent of instructor. Historical and analytical treatment of the appearance and realignment of political parties during the five successive ‘national party systems’ since the beginning of the republic. Special emphasis is given to the question of contemporary party disarray and potential realignment. Satisfies University Studies VI: Common Requirements/Critical Reasoning.
