Greetings from the Chancellor and Board of Trustees Chair

Dear Graduate Students,

It’s my pleasure to welcome you to this step in your academic career and to our nationally recognized graduate school. I am both a new and returning Seahawk. While I held previous leadership positions at UNCW, this is my first year as chancellor. I am honored to be trusted with continuing the university’s trajectory of success.

UNCW’s graduate student population is growing at double-digit rates, a recognition of the faculty and the quality of programs. Our programs have attracted some of the nation’s top researchers and faculty who will prepare you to lead in workplaces, labs, classrooms and fields around the world.

As a High Research Activity (R2) institution, UNCW is one of three UNC System institutions ranked among the “Top 100 Public National Universities” by U.S. News & World Report. We are pleased to welcome the first candidates to our doctoral program in Applied Coastal and Ocean Sciences and are eager to welcome our sixth doctoral program in Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 2023.

As we celebrate 75 years of UNCW this year, we will continue to welcome students and visitors from around the world to our beautiful coastal campus, contribute to the educational, cultural and economic vitality of the region and inspire pride with our achievements.

Congratulations on advancing your degree. UNCW is here to guide you to the next level of success.

Aswani K. Volety
Chancellor

Dear Students,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am honored to welcome you to the University of North Carolina Wilmington. As a graduate of UNCW, I know that our university will offer you many great experiences. Think about what you want to achieve and make the most of your time as a student, whether you attend classes on campus, online or a combination of both.

Our faculty and staff excel at teaching, mentoring, research and service. They will work closely with you to help you achieve your educational goals. I also hope you include time in your schedules to meet new people and have some fun.

UNCW is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. We are proud of our university and of the students, faculty and staff who make the UNCW experience like no other. You are now a part of our Seahawk community. Best wishes for your continued success.

Go Seahawks!
