Greetings from the Chancellor and Board of Trustees Chair

Dear Students,

Welcome to the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where “giving flight to imagination” inspires our campus community to regularly strive for excellence in teaching, research and service. Whether you are a recent high school graduate, a transfer student from another university or community college, a veteran or military-affiliated student, or a professional seeking to enhance your career opportunities, UNCW offers numerous ways for you to make your dreams a reality.

Our faculty and staff are committed to providing you with the best educational experience possible as you pursue new professional and personal skills. To further prepare you for success in the 21st century, our Strategic Plan emphasizes integrity, diversity and innovation as well as an ever-present dedication to community engagement.

In 2018, we broke ground on Veterans Hall, which will house our growing allied health programs and meet a critical need for healthcare providers within our community. UNCW continuously enhances its facilities and reviews its course offerings to ensure that our students have access to programs that will help them make a difference in their community, now and after they graduate.

I encourage you to learn about our history and enjoy our traditions as the semesters unfold. Our university has an outstanding reputation for excellence and affordability, according to U.S. News & World Report, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance and The Princeton Review, among other prestigious publications. The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2018 included UNCW among the nation’s “best and most interesting” colleges and universities. The university has also earned a reputation as an institution that goes above and beyond to help working professionals and military-affiliated students achieve their higher education goals.

During your years at UNCW, you will discover the many ways we are working to provide our students with educational opportunities that lead to personal and professional fulfillment. We want you to develop thorough knowledge in your field of study, but we also hope you will cultivate a capacity for resourceful thinking as well as a keen interest in the world around you.

Best wishes for your continued success,

Jose V. Sartarelli, Ph.D.
Chancellor

Get to know the UNCW faculty and staff, who are outstanding educators, mentors, and guides. They will encourage you to make the most of your collegiate experience through applied learning experiences, campus leadership programs, community engagement, cultural activities, international study, and much more.
