FIN 441 - Financial Analytics

Adoption of big data techniques in large US business soared from 17% in 2015 to 59% in 2018, according to a recent article in the Forbes magazine. Building on this motivation, this course will be designed to introduce statistical and machine learning methods developed in the recent literature and discuss their applications in financial markets as well as industries such as banking and insurance. We start from basic regression analysis and build on to discuss advanced methods such as decision tree and neural networks. Throughout the course, the emphasis will be on practical uses rather than statistical details; however, a fair amount of background information on the fundamentals of the methods used will still be provided.
