SEC 407 - iSTEM - Project Based Instruction and Assessment Credits: 3
Co-requisite: SEC 421 (iSTEM). This course addresses the distinctive features of project-based learning and the associated teaching practices. It will provide conceptual tools and analytic skills essential to designing and developing assessment to be applied in a secondary STEM instructional setting. Attention will be given to the essential components of projects, including challenging problems or questions, sustained inquiry, authenticity, student voice and choice, reflection, critique and revision, and public product. The teaching practices that will be addressed include planning, scaffolding student learning, managing activities, and building a culture of inquiry thorugh projects. Students will construct assessments that align with best practices in teaching inquiry-based and project-based design instruction.
