SEC 407-iSTEM - Project Based Instruction and Assessment

Credits: 3
Corequisite: SEC 425-iSTEM . This course addresses the distinctive features of project-based learning and the associated teaching practices. It will provide conceptual tools and analytiv skills essential to designing and developing assessment to be applied in a secondary STEM instructional setting. Attention will be given to the essential components of projects, including challenging problems of questions, sustained inquiry, authenticity, student voice and choice, reflection, critique and revision, and public product. The teaching practices that will be addresses include planning, scaffolding student learning, managing activities, and building a culture of inquiry through projects. Students will construct assessments that align with best practices in teaching inquiry-based and project-based design instruction.
This course should be taken along with upper level discipline area courses with iSTEM desgination. It is required for students who are completing the iSTEM with Teaching Licensure minor.
