ANT 205 - Human Societies

Credits: 3
(SOC 205 ) The comparative study of human society and culture, with selected ethnographic examples to illustrate human adaptation to specific environments and reveal patterns of major social institutions–economy, marriage and kinship, politics and religion–which underlie and support a particular way of life. Comparisons are drawn among hunter-gatherer, tribal horticultural, peasant and modern industrial societies. Perspectives on the dynamics of social process and cultural change are also introduced.
